For nearly 40 years, faculty salaries, benefits and working conditions have deteriorated steadily while student tuition went from zero to thousands of dollars. During pretty much this entire period, NYPIRG, the PSC-CUNY and others have spent tremendous amounts of money and energy lobbying politicians in Albany, City Hall and Washington. It doesn’t work. Unless you are on the payroll of NYPIRG or the PSC, there is no good reason to encourage people to write letters to “their” elected officials if you are against tuition hikes.
